THE CLUB

Where all are welcome and a love of football and pride in the community meet.

Camden & Islington United is a supporter-owned and community-run football club. Founded in 2019, the club is affectionately referred to by fans and players as “CANDI” (‘C’ for Camden, and ‘I’ for Islington = CANDI). CANDI was set up by a group of local coaches, players, youth workers, teachers, charity experts and business owners with a shared love of football and a passion to use it to unite a community.

Based in North London and now in its second season, our vision is to bring great quality men’s and women’s football to our boroughs and become a centrepiece for community projects and action. Our vision is to offer semi-professional men’s and women’s football in an environment that is affordable to fans and welcoming of all, regardless of their age or background. CANDI stands firmly and proudly against all forms of discrimination, on and off the pitch.

Our motto is “NON SIBI SED TOTI” which is Latin for “Not For Self But For All”, and signifies that everything we do on and off the pitch is not for our own benefit but for the betterment of everyone involved with the club and the community.

Our men’s first team currently plays in the Middlesex County League, a feeder league for the professional game. Our women’s team offers free weekly training sessions, currently plays in the Islington 7-a-side midweek league and is actively recruiting players.

In 2020, with the help of the Football Supporters’ Association, CANDI was formally registered with the FCA as a Community Benefit Society. This allows fans and supporters to purchase a share, and thus a vote, in the club. No individual can purchase more than one share, which means that CANDI is 100% fan-owned and democratically run for and by the community it serves. This allows us to be responsive to the ever-changing needs of our community, and grow as a sustainable club which will be at the heart of the community for years to come. You can now become a member of CANDI here!

CANDI, with the help of players from both its men’s and women’s teams, has a number of active community projects. Visit our Community Page to learn more or get involved.
